HOD-883OR Advanced Research Methodologies: Organization Research

2 or 4 semester credits
This course includes advanced studies and applied research projects, designed to develop skills in specific research methodologies and approaches. All the advanced research modules numbered 883XX are designed to enable students to learn a particular research method in depth. This module will critically examine the assumptions that underpin a variety of research methods that are currently used in organizational research.  It will consider the foundational paradigmatic approach of Burrell and Morgan (1976) that identified four paradigms created by intersecting spectrums of radical change<->stability and subjective<->objective approaches to understanding organizations.  Other approaches will include Bjerke’s (2013) guide that looks at systemic, structural, individual, social and other dimensions of organization.
Pre-requisites: HOD-802
Delivery Method: Online
Grading Default: Letter
Learning Objective(s):
  • Demonstrate understanding of ways of categorizing organizational research methodologies
  • Apply two or more approaches to a design for organizational research, critically analyzing strengths, limitations, and addressing the questions of underlying issues of power, ethics, and researcher agendas.
