HOD-851 Comparative Wisdom Traditions4 semester credits Students engage with literatures from Asia, Africa, and various Western traditions to examine the formation and expectations of women and men’s development. Different cultures understand what it means to be a mature adult in different ways. Modern society may emphasize forming a family, while more traditional societies may emphasize becoming a warrior. This course compares cultural traditions and ritual cultures comparatively to understand the formation of adults via socialization, education, religious formation, etc. comparatively. Considering specifics of different cultures like values, practices, heroes, ideals, and forms of status reward, students will engage in descriptive work and comparative analysis.
