PSY-701A Research Methods I4 semester credits This course provides an overview of research epistemology and ethics and the assumptions that underlie scientific inquiry. Students are expected to be able to evaluate the concepts, methods and results of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methodologies and designs, and the principles underlying their implementation. - Understand the basic epistemological assumptions and tenets that underlie scientific inquiry.
- Be familiar with a variety of research methods and designs for investigating specific research questions.
- Understand the implications of internal and external validity in the design and interpretation of research.
- Be able to apply ethical standards to human research.
- Be able to read and critically evaluate the concepts, methods and results of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research studies, and to evaluate whether methods were used appropriately, and whether studies were conducted with sensitivity to identified groups (e.g., race, ethnicity, SES, gender, culture, ability, sexual orientation, and to ethical issues).
