IECD-573 Advanced Integrated Approach to Intervention4 semester credits This course is a continuation of Integrated Developmental Approach to Intervention prerequisite. There will be an in depth understanding of intervention. This course provides an opportunity to engage in a critical analysis of theoretical concepts using the book Developmentally Based Psychotherapy (1997) by Stanley Greenspan. Through reading, reflection, forum discussions, chapter presentation, small groups and class discussion, a further understanding of development, individual differences, and relationships in the context of intervention will be targeted. Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Discuss theoretical and foundations of dynamic approaches to intervention.
- Understand and be able to discuss the construct of developmentally based psychotherapy and how it applies to intervention.
- Discuss Greenspan’s developmental approach to adult psychopathology.
- Present an in-depth analysis of psychodynamic theoretical constructs as they apply to understanding strengths and challenges in young children.
- Describe the foundation elements of individualized intervention.
