CMFT-576 Therapy with Black Families

3 semester credits
This course introduces the learner to family therapy intervention skills with black families.  As such, it integrates African American Heritage and practical systemic applications for commonly presented issues in clinical practice.  Learners will develop and implement marriage and family therapy interventions and apply those interventions to specific black marriage and family problems, anticipate client reactions, and conduct ongoing assessment of client progress.  Learners will be introduced to various ways of joining and treating black families- including ways to get “unstuck” in therapy.  Learners will also become aware of common family of origin issues that may arise during the course of therapy.
