CMHC-520 Practicum

3 semester credits
This applied experience is the introduction to supervised professional practice. Students begin to demonstrate emerging understanding of key concepts, in professional counseling in an applied work setting.  Students are supported in synthesizing the theoretical knowledge, and communication/counseling techniques acquired in a pre-practicum course and professional skills and dispositions learned throughout their program. Cultural competency development is thematic throughout this experience and is emphasized in all clinical work. Students will fulfill a minimum of 100 hours experience, 40 of which must be direct service hours under the supervision of both the site supervisor and the faculty advisor. Additionally, students will participate in a seminar for case conference sessions via a virtual, synchronous digital platform and residencies. Students who choose a concentration will fulfill their supervised practicum and internship requirements at agencies serving the target populations.
