CMHC-512 Psychopathology: Etiology and Treatment
3 semester credits
This course will provide students with a thorough understanding of normal and abnormal behavior, the DSM-5 and ICD-10 classifications, and etiology and research related to contemporary understanding of mental health disorders. The diagnostic process, differential diagnosis and the use of current diagnostic classification systems are viewed through a lens of cultural sensitivity and perspective when it comes to diagnosis and treatment.
In addition, classifications, indications and contraindications of commonly prescribed psychotropic medications are explored as will frameworks for referral to and consultation with prescribing professionals.
