CMHC-505 Development Over the Lifespan

3 semester credits
This course examines human development from infancy through advanced age, focusing on the development of perceptual and cognitive processes, psychosocial roles (including gender) and familial interpersonal processes. Assessment of children both in terms of healthy development and physical/emotional abuse is explored. Moreover, students will understand the biopsychosocial aspects of aging and strategies for interventions when it comes to long-term care, elder and adult abuse and neglect. Both abnormal and normal behavior will be considered with careful attention to cultural definitions and impact on these phenomenon.  Also considered will be developmental crises, disability and psychopathology. Cultural diversity, contextual, and individual differences are integral themes throughout the course.
