IECD-577 Observing Babies II4 semester credits In this class students will discuss their observations of parent-infant interactions. Students will be observing a parent-child interaction and will discuss their observations in group discussions. Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Learn the elements of constructs such as vitality affects; interactional synchrony; moments of meeting; implicit relational knowing.
- Have increased understanding of how and what to observe in infant - parent interaction to assess whether the relationship is supporting the health of the infant, and /or the infant is experiencing some constitutional constrictions or individual differences requiring special care.
- Learn strategies for thinking with parents about how to make sense of their baby’s actions and reactions.
- Have observation and reflection tools to bring to their work environments.
- Engage in discussions with each other to practice talking with parents about sensitive topics related to their baby.
